The drive in an iMac sits behind a screen that's glued on, so getting it out takes care — and that part happens at your end, since we don't extract drives from machines. Once it's here: HFS+ and APFS read natively on the bench, a clicking Apple disk gets the clean-bench treatment, and a Fusion Drive gets handled as the odd couple it is — one SSD, one hard drive, acting as a single volume; each is imaged on its own and the pair rejoined in software.
Everything turns on whether the storage unplugs. A 2009–2011 iMac with its 3.5-inch SATA disk — yes, gladly. The Fusion-era machines running a blade alongside a hard drive — also yes. A T2-secured Intel iMac or anything Apple Silicon — no: there the SSD is part of the logic board, soldered and encrypted in hardware, so the data lives and dies with that board, and we pulled out of soldered-Apple work around two years back once the success rate stopped being something we could honestly charge for. One phone call establishes your model year before anything is posted — the cheapest diagnostic on the menu.

The two posted halves are imaged individually, re-joined logically, and the APFS or HFS+ volume above them rebuilt into everyday files.
Blades, Fusion pairs and ordinary SATA disks connect natively to the imaging stack. Improvisation is not part of the process.
Mechanical failure in an iMac drive follows the same donor-head and firmware route as every spinning drive in the building.

SATA disks and Fusion pairs do, and that era's most dependable failure remains the short-lived 1TB Seagates of 2009–2011, for which donors are always racked. T2 and Apple Silicon machines bond an encrypted SSD to the board, so that work was retired here rather than dressed up in odds nobody honest would quote.

Is the drive still inside a computer, laptop, MacBook, iMac, CCTV / DVR or server? Take the hard drive or SSD out first and post the bare drive on its own — removing drives from machines isn't a service we offer. Storage that's soldered to a motherboard (Apple Silicon Macs, certain slim laptops) is the one thing we can't work on: if it doesn't come out, it can't come in.
